Tornado Hits King’s Bay Naval Base

A 138-mph tornado struck parts of the base last Sunday (12-3-18), but very fortunately there was no major damage.  Five persons were treated for minor injuries (three in a near-by fishing boat and two Navy personnel in a patrol boat).

Three Navy vehicles were blown into a waterway, some trees were down, roadways temporarily blocked, and some power lines came down, as well.  But again, thankfully, no damage to the submarines stationed there or to the major buildings on base.  All in all, very good fortune., especially in view of the major natural disasters that have occurred recently in Florida, SW Georgia, and California.
