Third ID CAB Soldier Killed at Wright Army Airfield (Fort Stewart)

On March 30th, reportedly at about 2 AM, an indecent involving at least one HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter occurred at Wright Army Airfield at Fort Stewart, regrettably resulting in the death of 26-year-old Army Captain James Bellew, according to a Third ID press release.

Investigation of the incident remains under investigation.  No further information has yet been released.  Updates will be added as available.

Update:  Official information about the incident is still apparently close-hold, pending completion of the investigation surrounding the fatality.  There were apparently two HH-60 helicopters involved, but no word yet on whether one or both were in the air at the time, or whether this was a ground incident.  Captain Bellew is identified as an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer, as the HH-60 aircraft are used primarily for rescue in combat.  As a member of the 3d Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), he would have been home stationed at Hunter Army Airfield here in Savannah.  Additional updates when more information is officially released.
