Smart Talk: Texas Governor Abbott, et.al.

Governor Greg Abbott has now boldly stepped in to deal with the border situation impacting Texas to help overcome the Biden administration’s disastrous and purely politically spiteful cancelation of President Trump’s border wall.  It’s bee4n announced that, failing the federal government’s responsibility to protect the citizens of Texas, the Governor will now re-start building border barriers for Texas.  Said he: “We have to build a border wall in the state of Texas.”  His residents in the Rio Grande Valley, especially, have been overrun with illegal migrants creating a situation for Texans there that is “reprehensible.”  The Governor has approved $1-billion for border security, from which will come the money to build the needed border barriers.

Governor Abbott continued with his comments: “The influx across the border is out of control, and the Biden administration has shown that it is not going to step up and do its job. What people have seen in videos across the country seems to be the Biden administration welcoming these people to the United States.  We won’t be sending that message.  If you come to Texas, you’re subject to being arrested.  You are not going to have a pathway to roam the country.  You’re going to have a pathway directly into a jail cell.”

Hopefully this firm warning to would-be crossers will prove to be effective in at least slowing the surge, while Texas picks up on the border wall project across Texas, where the Trump administration left off, and the Biden people foolishly failed to continue.  Concluded the Governor: “We want to be very aggressive in working with local officials and begin making mass arrests.  In working in collaboration with a large number of counties – that means we’re going to be arresting a lot more people.”

America’s patriots thank Governor Abbott for his aggressive move and commitment, forced on him by the failure of D.C. to adequately protect his citizens, along with those of other border states, and ultimately the people across America from the on-going flood of migrants, drugs, and criminals that continue to stream across our southern border and, in too many cases, now apparently wander, or are transported, into our nation daily. For justifiable, pro-America reasons, Greg Abbott headlines this ‘Smart Talk’ edition.

Next up: Commentator Deroy Murdock speaks out about the seeming current increase in crime across the country. Wrote Mr. Murdock: “Criminals themselves are the root cause of crime – now and evermore. But the thugs-enablers, and sometimes cheerleaders, are the root cause of nearly every contemporary American malady: The Democrat-left. Just as the Republican-right predicted a year ago, when the Democratic-left slashes police budgets, calls them racists, and damns them to hell, cops retreat. Criminals advance. And innocents get beaten, raped, shot, and killed.”  Murdock also faults the left-wing-hatched buzz words “bail reform,” which in most cases translates into no cash bail (i.e., no bail needed at all).  “Charging criminals cash bail (you see) is racist.”  Along with that, Murdock speaks of the Democrat-left having also created. what he calls “PINOS: Prosecutors in Name Only”!  Leading in Democrat-ruled cities to all-too-often going easy on criminals.  He cites, among other major Democrat cities, Portland. “Portland has erupted like a volcano,” wrote Murdock, “with left-wing fueled arson, riots, and vandalism almost nightly for the last year.  The district attorney there has let Antifa and BLM domestic terrorists destroy Oregon’s largest city.  Between May 2020 and last month, according to his office, 891 of 1,106 (81%) protest-related cases were dropped.”

Mr. Murdock concludes his commentary: “The hoodlum huggers have Made Crime Great Again.  This total disaster is brought to you by America’s ever-reliable disaster machine: The Democratic-left.”  Deroy Murdock seldom holds back when it comes to defending the good people of all races in the nation he loves and is ever-quick to defend.  Out thanks for this ‘Smart Talk’ cutting edge candor (understatement!).

Last week, in a speech to U.S. troops in the U.K., as a part of his current foreign trip, Mr. Biden repeated to our military, of all groups, that ‘global warming” is the greatest threat faced by America!  What Progressive political-brain-washed foolishness.  To think for a moment that the climate (controlled not by humans) is a bigger threat to the U.S. than the military, cyber, and/or terrorist threats posed by China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, plus Hamas, Taliban, and random militants as we depart Afghanistan. Absolute childishness, purely to push an elitist ‘woke’ (whatever that is) political agenda to waste billions of dollars on “green energy,” and other feel-good stuff, while accelerating the resulting economic destruction of America (certainly, so, for our grandkids).  When Rasmussen Reports polled likely U.S. voters as to whether they felt global warming is the “greatest threat facing America,” a composite 54% of respondents said No.  By political leaning, 53% of Republicans feel the government is doing too much to ‘combat’ it, while 63% of Democrats said the government isn’t doing enough to ‘combat’ something that realistically, based on what we know now, is largely beyond human control!

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has stepped forward again, in a meaningful way, by getting legislative approval to provide $1,000 rewards for Florida’s law enforcement officers and other first responders as a state-wide thanks for their “lifesaving work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”  Said the Governor: “Some want to defund the police. We’re funding the police and then some.” Florida Attorney- General Ashley Moody responded to the news via Twitter: “Amazing news on this greatly deserved bonus for our first responders and law enforcement officers!  Thank you, Governor DeSantis, Florida Senate, and Florida House, for prioritizing the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting our state.”  The bonus dollars will go to the state’s firefighters and EMT’s, along with law enforcers. Quite a loyalty-producing gesture for the state’s police forces, in the face of calls to partially defund, or even do away with, community law enforcers in some other of America’s Democrat-run cities.  What a refreshing difference, and an added investment in crime control.

And, now of course, some attention to the border. The Republican Study Committee has released a statement directed at, not surprisingly, the Democrat’s apparent goal and plan: “The Biden Immigration Agenda sacrifices the interests of the American people in order to serve the interests of foreign citizens, criminal cartels, and ultra-wealthy multinational corporations. It rejects responsible limits and controls on the number of people entering the country.  It’s as if the Biden administration recognizes no borders at all.  President Biden’s policy is not liberal, or even merely left-wing – it is radical, extreme, and beyond the bounds of rational thought.”

On that subject, with VP Harris telling migrants “Don’t come!” during her recent trip to Guatemala, the assumption might be that our southern border is now closed.  If wishes were horses.  It is far from closed with the surge continuing and monthly admit numbers climbing higher, with those numbers reflecting only those migrants apprehended, not the traffickers and others who make it across our border undetected. The always quotable and astute Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) has responded to the false notion that our border is closed.  Said he recently: “The Department of Homeland Security has announced that the border is closed, but they lie like they breathe. I’ve been to the border. If you believe the border is closed, you believe in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and that Jimmy Hoffa died of natural causes.” He concluded his thoughts on this topic with: “We’ll have 2-million people come into the United States this year illegally, thanks to the Biden administration.  America has become one giant sanctuary city, and the shame of all of this is that in addition to violating the law and being dangerous, it undermines legal immigration.” Legal immigration has now become an almost forgotten regulated opportunity in which to add skilled and talented, English-speaking individuals to our workforce, but hopefully not at the expense of already skilled-and-here Americans, especially right now.

And a rare look at what may well be a part of the reality of the group, Black Lives Matter.  Mr. Rashad Turner, who now leads the pro-school choice group, Minnesota Parent Union, was a member of BLM, and provides some rare thoughts, now, about that organization. Said he: “In 2015, I was the founder of Black Lives Matter in St. Paul (Minnesota). I was an insider in BLM and I learned the ugly truth – the moratorium on charter schools does not support rebuilding the black family.  But it does create barriers to a better education for black children. I believed the organization stood for exactly what the name implies – black lives do matter.  However, after a year on the inside, I learned they had little concern for rebuilding black families. And they cared even less about improving the quality of education for students in Minneapolis…when they publicly denounced charter schools alongside the teachers’ union.”  It’s one thing to make assertions against the group from the outside.  Even more credible, and incredible, to hear the truth expressed by a unit founder and insider, and someone now working to encourage school choice, and better educational opportunities, for minority children.

Looking at the extraordinary budget & Treasury-busting Biden spending plans, seemingly guided by Puff the Magic Dragon, author, market analyst, and FOX Business host Charles Payne has some ‘Smart Talk’ thoughts on the enormity of the spending plans, far too much of which will in all likelihood result in actual expenditures.  Said Mr. Payne regarding the huge and largely unnecessary spending: “I think people are blown away (by the price tag). The $6-trillion is sticker shock. Considering the amount is the most we’re ever spent, year over year. You know, I think the point has been made that we’ve had emergency spending like this in the past – but it was an emergency.  It was short-term: whether it was World War II, or whether it was right after the great recession, or to sort of help with the COVID shutdowns.” Payne concluded his thoughts on this anticipated expenditure: “This is something different. It comes with a lot of deficits. It comes with more taxes.  Comes with things that even the Biden administration admits we’ll have really mediocre GDP growth under this plan.  It’s not an economic plan.  It’s a social justice plan.  It’s extraordinarily dangerous.  It takes us off the rails of what made (America) amazing to begin with.”  Strong words of caution and warning from a professional economy and markets practitioner concerned about the near-term, and future, negative impact on our country.

To conclude this edition, at the start of the year 2020, Rochester, New York talk-radio personality, Bob Lonsberry (WHAM 1180 AM) crafted and shared with his audience, a brilliant, truthful essay about our “Two Americas,” responding to a speech by Mr. Biden which focused on, in his leftist political view, the issue of income inequality.  Wrote Mr. Lonsberry in his rebuttal, in part: “The Democrats are right, there are two Americas. The America that works, and the America that doesn’t. The America that contributes, and the America that doesn’t. Some people do their duty as Americans, obey the law, support themselves, contribute to society, and others don’t.  That’s the divide in America. It’s about a political party that preaches hatred, greed and victimization in order to win elective office.  It’s about a political party that loves power more than it loves its country. That’s not invective, that’s truth, and its about time someone said it.”

Mr. Lonsberry concluded his lengthy and very well laid-out genuine concerns about America’s future with this statement of fact: “What Biden offered (in his speech about inequality) was not a solution, but a separation.  He fomented division and strife, pitted one set of Americans against another for his own political benefit. That’s what socialists offer. Marxist class warfare wrapped up with a bow.”

Our thanks to Rochester, New York’s Bob Lonsberry for this great essay, written, and shared here only in part, by this gifted, conservative radio host, broadcasting weekdays on one of the city’s oldest, most respected, and most listened to stations, WHAM Radio.  Truthful, but painfully not uplifting, although, sadly, neither is our national political reality these days.  On the bright side of life, thanks to President Trump, and the good Lord above, we now have preventive vaccines and improved treatments for the virus, as much of the nation can now head back to at least some semblance of normalcy, make that more correctly, our unexpected new normal!
