Fort Stewart & Hunter Army Airfield (GA) Third Division Change of Command

This morning (June 21, 2021) at Cottrell Field on the Fort Stewart installation, Major-General Antonio (Tony) Aguto, Jr. relinquished command of the Army’s Third Infantry Division (Fort Stewart/HAAF) to Major-General Charles Costanza.  MG Aguto will now take command of First Army (pending Senate confirmation), headquartered at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois.

Major-General Costanza previously served as the Director of Training, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, Headquarters, Department of the Army, Washington, D.C.  MG Costanza was commissioned in the Armor Branch at West Point (1991).  He assumes 3rd ID command having served most recently as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, United States Army Forces Command.  He has three operational/combat tours: Operation Joint Guard, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Inherent Resolve.  He and his wife, Megan, are the parents of two daughters.

In his farewell remarks, MG Aguto thanked the Hinesville and Savannah communities for their great support of the Division.  And in closing, he stated, and proudly so, that he would always be “A Dog-Faced Soldier” (3rd ID motto).
