The Passing of Colonel Ed Wexler, USAF (Ret.)
Colonel Edward I. Wexler died June 30, 2021, at his home, after an extended illness. Ed spent 35-years in military service to our nation, the majority of it with the 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard here in the Savannah area.
Ed was very active with military and veterans’ affairs, to include being a founding member (and treasurer) of the STARbase Savannah Foundation (STEM education programs for area 5th graders at Hunter); a long-time member of the National Museum of the Mighty 8th Air Force Board (Pooler, GA); a key member of the Honor Flight Savannah organization (coordinates annual trips to visit D.C. monuments & memorials for area WW II, Korea & Vietnam veterans); and an area representative of the important Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR) program of the Department of Defense (promotes understanding and positive relations between reserve component members and employers). Selected by his peers, Ed was a past Chatham County Veteran of the Year (2017-18).
A smart and kind man, Colonel Ed Wexler was universally loved and respected by all who worked with him and/or knew him as a friend. He was tireless in his devotion and assistance to all things, events, and organizations military. While it is said often of those who pass, Ed Wexler truly will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine. Ed was 75-years-old at the time of his death. Gratefully, he is now resting with our Lord, free of illness, now and forever.
