Plowing Through Stop Signs (Financial & Social) Without Slowing Down

Lately, we’ve had to become unwilling witnesses to a tsunami of damaging, anti-America legislation spewing out of the Democrat-controlled House, heading to the Democrat-dominated Senate, and likely, without stopping or altering, landing at Mr. Biden’s express-lane, non-stop executive-orders desk for signature.  These bad, self-glorifying, self-satisfying Democrat-crafted-and-pressured bills are being churned-out with such thundering flow and impact, that for American citizen attempts at comprehension, or lack thereof, it must be similar to standing at the foot of Niagara Falls open mouth.  Result: America is ideologically and fiscally drowning in the rapids of this Democrat deluge.

For starters, and wishfully, enders, there’s the “For the People Act” (H.R.1), which most definitely isn’t; then comes the “Covid-19 Relief” U.S. Treasury-buster-bill, 90% of which has absolutely nothing to do with virus relief or remediation; then something called “The Equality Act” which is anything but; and the proposed  “George Floyd Justice in Policing Act,” aimed at partial law enforcement defunding (or worse), and overall, making it potentially more difficult and less safe for our remaining dedicated, loyal police officers to do their job effectively protecting the public.  Now we’re told that lurking behind the $1.9-trillion masquerading COVID bill, waiting in the wings is another Treasury-blasting trillion-dollar+ infrastructure proposal.  If passed, and there’s apparently nothing to stop it, given the current demise of America-first and just plain common sense,  we’re told it’s destined to create jobs (which our recovering economy is already doing without it!) and will definitely lead to the further bankrupting of America (with staggering national debt left to future generations, which is seemingly no concern to today’s satisfy-me-now Democrat leaders).  The Progressive Democrat solution to every ill seems to be centered on the continual transfer of wealth, from hard working, tax-paying individuals and successful, productive American companies, to recipients (citizen and non-citizen alike) who in too many cases may not need it or perhaps should not even be eligible.

As stated earlier, the “For the People Act” (H.R.1) is camouflage for making Democrat control of our nation permanent, by federalizing state voting requirements and procedures.  Principle among them: eliminating that nasty, “voter suppressing” legal picture identification requirement (easy to obtain and needed for virtually every transaction today!), legalizing same day registration (eliminating any way of determining a person’s legal right to vote), and other requirements bothersome to Democrats which were previously supposed to be set and administered by each state’s legislature.

Ultimately, H.R.1 may prove to be unconstitutional.  Article I, Section 4 of the United States Constitution requires that “the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives shall be prescribed in each state by the Legislature thereof.” Unfortunately, and this will be for the federal Courts to sort out, the Article I provision does however go on to state that “the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the places of choosing Senators.”  Traditionally, the federal government has rarely stepped in to override state legislature-prescribed voting procedures.  This would amount to an almost unprecedented exercise (abuse) of Congressional power, if this H.R.1 “Act” (an appropriate designation, since it is all an act, a scheme) ever becomes law.  Only one Democrat voted along with all Republicans against the measure (Bennie Thompson, D-Mississippi who actually and refreshingly listened to his constituent’s wishes, concerned as they were about usurping states’ election procedure and redistricting rights).

Since H.R.1 is said to be the House Democrats’ “top legislative priority,” the editors at the National Review have referred to this federal power-grab as “a partisan assault on American democracy.”  Said the editors: “It is actually several radical left-wing wish lists stuffed into a single 791-page sausage casing.  It would override hundreds of state laws governing the orderly conduct of elections, federalize control of voting and elections to a degree without precedent in American history, end two centuries of state power to draw congressional districts…while offering government handouts to congressional campaigns and campus activists.  Merely to describe the bill is to damn it.”

West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner responded to the threat coming from this proposed state-smothering legislation: “This is way over the line.  Elections need to be run by local officials, who are closest to the people, elected by the people, most responsive to the people.”  Said Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose: “There’s historical bipartisan agreement that states run elections.  Democrats just abandoned that long-held principle for expedience.”  And in her Wall Street Journal article, “Democrats Sell Out Their States,” columnist Kimberly Strassel wrote: ‘The big lie is H.R.1.  It’s a brazen attempt to rig the game for a permanent Democratic majority. The proof is the fury with which the left is demanding the Senate kill the filibuster to pass H.R.1 with 51 votes, including the vice president’s tiebreaker.”

Wrote columnist (and former lieutenant governor of New York) Betsy McCaughey about H.R.1: “Nancy Pelosi wants to turn American into a one-party nation.  The House speaker has no qualms about trashing the Constitution to kneecap her Republican opponents. Honest, competitive elections are the foundation of our freedom.  A large majority of Republican voters already distrust the electoral system and feel cheated.  Enacting this bill is a declaration of war against them (Republican voters) and will shatter whatever good will remains in this country.”

Former U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence weighed-in regarding this Democrat congressional ‘coup’ attempt over the state legislatures: “While legislators in many stated have begun work on election reform to restore public confidence in state elections, unfortunately, congressional Democrats have chosen to sweep those valid concerns and reforms aside and to push forward a brazen attempt to nationalize elections in blatant disregard of the U.S. Constitution.”  Continuing: “H.R.1 would increase opportunities for election fraud, trample the First Amendment, further erode confidence in our elections, and forever dilute the votes of legally qualified eligible voters.”  Said Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) following House passage of this terribly flawed legislation, from freedom’s perspective: “Democrats just voted to ban voter ID nationwide and force every state to permanently expand mail-in voting.”

Already, 20 state attorneys-general have announced plans to “seek legal remedies to protect the Constitution, the sovereignty of all states, and the rights of our citizens” should this congressional affront to every non-Progressive actually become law. Voters in states with Republican Senators need to contact them to reinforce support for voting this errant legislation down.  This is dangerous, freedom-dampening, truthfully, freedom-damning legislation, as is most all of what the Left is proposing of late.  But as opposed to the COVID relief act fiscal scam, this one threatens to turn America into a Democrat-run and dictated totalitarian land for a very long time, if not forever.  More on those other pending anti-America, Democrat-steam-rolled legislation in future posts.
