Lib-Loons and Others of the Flock
Each summer, and it seems forever, Minnesotans deal with large, very angry (because of the winters), and persistent mosquitoes. So prevalent, that you can actually purchase tee-shirts (more prudent, sweat-shirts) in Minnesota picturing the reviled mosquito as the State Bird! Fact. However, the actual official state bird of Minnesota is the revered common loon. Loons, you see, “are known for their soliloquy of cries, wails and yodels; their eerie, echoing calls are a distinctive feature of Minnesota’s northern lakes.”
The “cries and wails” of the Minnesota common loon can most often be heard and witnessed these days in the Greater Minneapolis area, but this bleating loon variety, through remarkably common, is the two-legged, non-flying/non-thinking type, known as the up-turned-nose Lib-Loon, most often seen these days as the squawking fowl on the Minneapolis city council. You remember “Defund The Police.” Those particular Lib-Loons recently voted unanimously to cut the MPD annual budget by $8-million, transferring that money into the fabled concept of ‘mental health teams’ in an effort to ‘transform’ public safety in Minneapolis. Said the mayor: “And today, there are good reasons to be optimistic about the future in Minneapolis.” Yeah, well maybe not.
Responding, the head of the local police union said “The City Council is decimating the police department. The number of working officers is the lowest it’s been in fifty years. Murders, shootings, and other violent crimes are approaching record levels.” In fact, murders in the city are said to be up 90% to date over last year. Sounds like it’s not just teams, but the mental health of the entire community that may now need some intensive care! Oh, and developers are reported to now be much more hesitant about making area investments given the rising crime rate. So much for the mayor’s gloating optimism.
And speaking of the insanity of the “Defund The Police” movement, over in Portland, Oregon, the scene this past year of seemingly endless metropolitan rioting (100-days straight), police officers there are quitting the PPD in “unprecedented” numbers, some taking positions with other departments at reduced salaries and benefits to get out from under the Portland anti-police sentiment. Coincidentally, the city council there voted to cut $15-million from the annual PPD budget, with concerns that further cuts may be coming. Lib-Loons are now nesting in Portland, as well.
But, now, back to Lib Land Minneapolis once again. Seems a neighbor there was offended by the Christmas display on the home of a local nurse (working with COVID patients) and her family. The display was pictured. It wasn’t one of those whole house full of lights pulsating to music set ups. It was literally one, repeat, one strand of lights stretching across the first-level roof line, plus one lighted Christmas symbol in the center of the second story. Simple, tasteful, and by today’s standards, definitely understated. The lib neighbor complained that “the idea of twinkling colorful lights are a reminder of divisions that continue to run through our society, a reminder of systemic biases against our neighbors who don’t celebrate Christmas or who can’t afford to put up lights of their own.” The note went on to speak of the “harmful impact an outward facing display like yours can have.” Absolutely ridiculous. Offended by a simple Christmas tradition, meant to provide a bit of happiness and cheer. Wonder what else in everyday life “offends” that letter writer. What a dream she or he must be to live with.
Then, among our non-Minnesota Lib-Landers, weeks ago, Representative Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had called for consumers to boycott Goya Foods products. Don’t remember why. Really doesn’t matter. But as happened a year or so ago with Chick-fil-A, when libs called for a boycott and, instead their sales from loyalists went through the roof, the Ocasio-Cortez boycott call resulted in increased sales! Not only increased, but according to the Goya Foods CEO, “increased 1,000-percent.” As a way of saying ‘thanks’ for inadvertently helping sales to skyrocket, Goya Foods named the Representative “Employee of the Month”!! Just rewards. And proving once again what Mom always told us that anyone can grow up to be a United States Representative.
And finally, thinking back to our dear friends in Minnesota during this very special season, it’s never “Silent Night” when Lib-Loons are around.
