The Death of Army Corporal Joseph Maciel

Corporal Joseph Maciel, a member of the Army’s first Security Force Assistance Brigade, was killed in Afghanistan during the first full weekend of July (2018).

Early indications are that Corporal Maciel was the victim of an “inside attack,” likely meaning that his assailant was a member of the Afghan Army that he and his SFAB colleagues were sent there to help, making this even more ironic and regrettable, to be polite. The principal SFAB mission is to train the forces of other countries, so that they are better prepared to protect and defend their own nation.

Corporal Maciel was hailed as a hero by members of his unit, shielding fellow soldiers from the attacker.  Said Army Colonel Scott Jackson, Commander of the 1^st SFAB: “We are incredibly proud of Corporal Maciel’s selfless service to his fellow Soldiers and our Nation, and deeply saddened by his loss.  We will never forget him or his ultimate sacrifice.”

Corporal Maciel, from South Gate, California, was a member of 1^st Battalion, 28^th Infantry Regiment, 3^rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Georgia, assigned to the 1^st SFAB there.  Fort Benning was his first duty station.  He was 20-years old.  (Quote via Breitbart.com, 7-9-18)
