Major Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Award
Our great area Fort Stewart-Hunter installation has won the 2019 Army Community of Excellence Award, outpacing all other Regular Army (i.e., active-duty) installations world-wide! Reserve and Guard facilities compete separately.
Here’s the most impressive part. FS-HAAF has won this prestigious Army award a record seven times, unique among installations. Previous first-place finishes occurred in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2015. You perhaps noticed some gaps. That’s because after FS-HAAF had finished first for three consecutive years (2004-2006), the Army required our installation to sit-out two-year periods to give the other installations a chance! So the wins in 2012 and 2015 reflect that two-year ineligibility. Last year, FS-HAAF placed third among the world’s U.S. Army installations. And, clearly, they came roaring back this year!
Fort Stewart Garrison Commander, Colonel Jason Wolter, credited not only the outstanding work of the Garrison personnel in providing the best possible training and living environment for soldiers and families, but he also recognized the importance of the strong support provided by their surrounding communities. Said He: “This award would not be possible without the exceptional teamwork from the Stewart-Hunter team and the partnerships we continue to build and sustain within our communities. We are one team with the common goal of taking care of our Soldiers, Families, Retirees, and Civilians.”
Unfortunately, this will apparently be the final year for awarding the Community of Excellence Award. Congratulations, again, to the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield family for bringing home the final ACOE Award, and retiring it with more first-place wins than any other Army installation.
